Discover Basque Country
The publisher of the Lonely Planet guides has decided that Bilbao, San Sebastián and other places in the Basque Country deserve to have a guide of their own published. Like all those in this series, it offers travellers advice and detailed information to enable them to enjoy their destination without missing anything important, as well as looking after their budget. Lonely Planet is one of the most extensive, popular series of tourist guides in the world. It was born in 1973 with a first book “Across Asia on the Cheap”, the result of a trip undertaken by Tony Wheeler and his wife Maureen, starting from Turkey and passing through Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, India and Nepal. In time, Lonely Planet became a point of reference for getting about all over the world and there are currently over 500 titles to help discover thousands of destinations on all five continents in detail. The Lonely Planet publisher now belongs to the BBC and also has a TV production company, specialist magazines and other media. Lonely Planet Pocket Bilbao & San Sebastián promises to be an important guide to what not to miss in both Basque cities and to help to reveal their secrets. “Gawk at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, soak in the history at Guernica and explore the perfect city beach at San Sebastian's Playa de la Concha” are the first recommendations by the guide’s publishers. As usual with this series, it will include detailed maps and plans, recommended routes, expert suggestions, price information, telephone numbers, travel information and more. But above all, the hints and tips for active travellers that have made Lonely Planet what it is.
