The Palacio Europa is the top conference centre in the Basque Country and an icon of sustainable architecture. Strategically located, it lies on one of the city's main arterial roads and is very well connected with the railway station and the city bus and tram system, as well as being just 10 minutes' walk from the bus station. It is also a stone's throw from the main hotels in the city, as well as the city centre and its old quarter. Following recent refurbishment, the building has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Its modern, spacious and versatile spaces have expanded its operational capacity so that it can cope with over 20 work groups at the same time in more than 17 halls and auditoria. On the outside, a vertical garden covers the frontage of the conference centre: nearly 1,500 m2 of vegetation improves insulation by 75%, with the resulting energy savings. All this makes the Palacio Europa the ideal venue for any conference event, and even more so for those that stress sustainability, in a city - Vitoria-Gasteiz - that won European Green Capital in 2012.
