Bullring
The Illumbe Bullring was inaugurated in 1998 and is a first-rate bullfighting arena. Its most striking feature is its roof. It is a multi-purpose venue, which is able to host bullfighting shows, concerts, expositions, etc. It has a capacity of between 10,000 and 16,000 people, depending on the type of show. Formed by two parts, each one weighing 60 tonnes, the retractable roof can be opened, exposing the bullring to the elements, or fully closed over the arena, in the space of just ten minutes. The presence of this roof means that spectators can enjoy shows in the bullring all year round, avoiding being at the mercy of weather conditions, which are highly unpredictable in the city of San Sebastian. Is equipped with cushions and a music band during the festival. The main festival takes place during Donostia-San Sebastian's Great Week, in August. The ring also celebrates a international bullfight meeting using young bulls in February and March.
